From the beginning, we were given a great platform to work with. The customer’s family provided Time Warp with an all original first-generation Bronco body and chassis handed down to them as a family heirloom. Aesthetically, our mission was getting this Bronco to look as close as possible to when it rolled onto the showroom floor. We got to work immediately, sending the body off to paint where it would receive a fresh coat of classic Ford white. While the body was away at paint, Time Warp got to work on the drivetrain. A 302 was chosen to power the Bronco, mated up to a 3-speed manual transmission. And it is, of course, equipped with four-wheel drive for off-road ventures. BF Goodrich 30x9 All-Terrains on color matched Ford factory steel wheels with custom chrome hub caps were chosen to retain that classic Bronco look.
Several modern creature comforts were added to make the vehicle a pleasure to drive. Modern handling features such as power steering and disc brakes were included to provide superior on and off-road handling over the Bronco’s factory steering and braking systems. In the cab, a Hurst shifter and a vintage style instrument cluster from Classic Instruments keep things looking period correct. Meanwhile, a Wet Sounds media receiver pumps out the tunes and allows for Bluetooth capability and hands-free calling. Finally, A/C was installed to keep everyone comfortable in the Georgia heat.
It’s always a pleasure building custom vehicles within Time Warp Customs, and it was an honor to complete this project for the customer’s family. They now have a completely capable off-road vehicle that will take anyone behind the wheel straight back to mid-60’s. We hope they get years of joy and memories out of this vehicle, and we’re sure they’ll turn some heads with it along the way.
It’s always a tall order building a custom vehicle, especially for high profile customers. So, when one of Georgia’s most beloved athletes came to Southern Off-Road Specialists for a custom build, we knew we had to knock it out of the park.
The project was something unique – a first generation half-cab Ford Bronco, restored to near classic spec with some modern conveniences. Time Warp Customs, SORS’s customs division, took on the project and the result was something truly special.
